JACQUES BRAULT

Jacques Brault (1933–2022) was a Quebec poet, novelist, translator, and essayist, widely recognized as one of the most important voices in contemporary Quebec literature. A professor of literature at the Université de Montréal, he helped shape generations of readers and writers. His writing, known for its sensitivity, restraint, and humanism, reflects on memory, fragility, and the intimacy of human experience. Recipient of the Governor General’s Award, the Prix Athanase-David, and the Grand Prix de la Ville de Montréal, Brault left a lasting mark on poetry with a language that is both simple and profound, blending critical thought with lived experience.
