JEAN CORTOT
Born in 1925 and passing away in 2018, Jean Cortot was a French painter and poet. The son of conductor Alfred Cortot, he first gained recognition as a painter and co-founder of the Nouvelle École de Paris. Alongside his pictorial work, he developed an artistic practice intertwining writing and painting, producing numerous artist’s books in collaboration with writers and poets such as André du Bouchet and Jean Tardieu. His work, at the crossroads of visual art and literature, explores the materiality of words and signs, making him a unique figure in contemporary visual poetry.
