Fernando Arrabal

Joséphine Bacon, born in Pessamit, Quebec, is an Innu poet, songwriter, and filmmaker celebrated as one of the leading voices of contemporary Indigenous literature. Writing in both Innu-aimun and French, her work emphasizes memory, cultural transmission, and the deep connection to the land. GIORGIO BAFFO

Giorgio Baffo (1694–1768) was an 18th-century Venetian poet, born and deceased in Venice. Alongside Carlo Goldoni, he is regarded as one of the leading writers in the Venetian language. Renowned for his satirical and licentious sonnets, Baffo combined humor, irony, and a popular voice to capture the spirit of everyday life in Venice. His works often celebrated sensuality while challenging social conventions, earning him both notoriety and admiration. Though considered scandalous in his time, today he is recognized as a significant figure in Italian dialect literature. Albert baguette

Albert Baguette (November 1, 1916 – October 10, 2004) was a Belgian scholar and linguist. Trained in the humanities and later in philology at the Catholic University of Louvain, he dedicated most of his life to teaching and research in linguistics. Only later in life did he turn to literary writing, publishing a small number of works. Among them, Éphémérides stands out as a collection of fifteen narratives reflecting his final years, blending memory, observation, and quiet reflection. Baguette’s unique path bridged the world of academic rigor and literary sensitivity, making his contribution both distinctive and rare.

Born in Paris in 1949, Julius Baltazar is a French artist whose talent was recognized early by Salvador Dalí, who took the young artist under his wing and encouraged him to pursue an artistic path.

Baltazar’s work blends printmaking, ink drawing, and Arlequin pencil, creating a hybrid space between engraving and painting. Deeply influenced by literature, he has maintained a close relationship with poetry, having illustrated over three hundred books of verse throughout his career.

His work reveals a sensitive universe shaped by texture, language, and gesture, where the artist’s hand is ever-present. Vincent Bardet

Born in 1947 in Clermont-Ferrand, Vincent Bardet grew up in the Paris region. He graduated in philosophy from the Institut d’Études Politiques and the University of Nanterre, before embarking on a career as a translator, essayist, and occasional poet. From 1980 to 2008, he worked at Éditions du Seuil, contributing to the dissemination of important literary and philosophical works. A practitioner of Zen Buddhism, Bardet has also played a role in introducing this spiritual tradition to a French audience through translations and introductory texts. His writings and activities reflect a lifelong engagement with the meeting of Western thought and Eastern spirituality.

PAUL BÉLANGER 

Born in Montreal in 1953, Paul Bélanger is a poet, essayist, and publisher. A major figure in contemporary Quebec poetry, his work explores memory, the body, nature, and human relationships through a lyrical and contemplative style. His first collection, Signets (1989), received the Prix Émile-Nelligan, establishing him as a significant voice in Canadian literature. Zéno Bianu (1950–2022) was a French poet, playwright, and essayist, considered a central figure of contemporary poetry. A poet of both orality and the written word, he collaborated with musicians, painters, and actors, giving his work a performative dimension. Alain Bosquet

Alain Bosquet (1919, Odessa – 1998, Paris) was a French writer, poet, and literary critic of Ukrainian origin. After serving with Charles de Gaulle and the Allied forces during the Second World War, he pursued a distinguished career in literature and academia. He published novels, poetry, and essays, while also working as a translator and as an editor at Calmann-Lévy. Widely acclaimed for the depth and universality of his poetry, he received several major awards, including the Prix Chateaubriand, the Prix Max Jacob, and the Grand Prix de Poésie from the Académie française.

Georges-Emmanuel Clancier

GUY CLOUTIER

Born in Québec City in 1949, Guy Cloutier is a writer, literary critic, and professor. He earned a PhD in French literature from Université Laval in 1986 and taught literature and creative writing at Cégep Lévis-Lauzon, Cégep Limoilou, and Université Laval. A literary critic for Radio-Canada, Le Soleil, and Magazine littéraire (Paris), he has published widely and served on juries for the CALQ and the Canada Council for the Arts. Co-founder of Éditions de l’Estérel (1977–1981), he also initiated Les Lundis du Temporel, a turning point in Québec’s literary recitals. Since 1996, he has been Artistic Director of Poètes de l’Amérique française. Actively involved in the literary community, he served with the Québec Writers’ Union and was named Chevalier of the Ordre des Palmes académiques (1990) and of the Ordre des arts et des lettres (2001).

Leonard Cohen

Born in 1934 in Westmount and passing away in 2016 in Los Angeles, Leonard Cohen was a Canadian poet, novelist, and singer-songwriter. Hervé de  Fontenay

 Born in 1948 and passing away in 2014, Hervé de Fontenay completed his studies at the Université de Montréal and McGill University. In 1975, he joined McGill University, and two years later began working at the Centre for Continuing Education, where he pursued a long career. Alongside his academic activities, de Fontenay devoted himself to poetry. His literary work, though discreet, reflects a sensitive exploration of language and memory. His career embodies the meeting of intellectual rigor and creative expression, two dimensions that shaped his contribution both to teaching and to literature.

Philippe Delaveau

Born in 1950, Philippe Delaveau is a writer, translator, and art critic, but he is best known as a poet.   Michel Déon

Born in 1919 and passing in 2016, Michel Déon was a French writer whose novels remain central to twentieth-century literature. A prolific author, he is best remembered for Les Poneys sauvages, which won the Prix Interallié, and Un taxi mauve, which earned the Grand Prize for the Novel from the Académie française.  Jean Désy

Jean Désy is a poet. He teaches at the University of Laval in literature and medicine. His passions were Nordic for much of his life. He still practices medicine as a convenience store on the North Shore and in Nunavik. His latest publications include an essay entitled “Being and not being,” about contemporary Inuit life, published by XYZ in March 2019; an essay entitled “Necessary irrationality,” published by XYZ in September 2020; a prose-poem entitled “Non je ne mourrai pas,” published by Mémoire d’encrier in January 2021; and finally an essay entitled “We are poetry,” published in January 2022 by XYZ and made from interviews with 31 poets and artists.

Born in 1929 and died in 2014, Charles Dobzynski was best known as a poet, although he also wrote novels and short stories. He is credited with some 40 poetry collections, which won him the Goncourt de la poésie and the Grand prix de poésie de la Société des gens de lettres. Member of the Académie Mallarmé, he was also jury president of the Prix Guillaume-Apollinaire.

Carlo Goldoni

Often considered the founder of modern Italian comedy, Carlo Goldoni was an 18th-century Italian playwright who wrote in Italian, French and Venetian. He worked in Venice and France, where he was exiled in 1762 following financial difficulties and aesthetic disagreements with influential compatriots. He is credited with tragedies, tragicomedies, operas and is particularly well-known for a great number of comedies.

Katia Grubisic

Katia Grubisic is a Canadian writer, editor and translator, born in 1978 in Toronto. She is trained in literature and holds a master's degree from Concordia University. She is the author of a collection of poetry, What if red ran out, which won the Gerald Lampert Memorial Award. Her poems and works of fiction have appeared in various magazines and anthologies. She was nominated for the Governor General's Award for her translation of the novel Brothers by David Clerson.

Lionel Ray (born Robert Lorho) is a French poet, born in 1935 in the Paris region. A lycée teacher, he won the Prix Guillaume-Apollinaire at a very young age and began to publish his poetry regularly in the early 1970s with the encouragement of Louis Aragon. Since then, he has published numerous books, including Le Corps Obscur (Prix Mallarmé), Comme un château défait (Prix Supervielle and Prix Goncourt de la Poésie) and Pages d'ombre : poèmes (Prix Guillevic, Grand prix de poésie de la Société des gens de lettres).

James Sacré

Lucien Scheler

Born in 1902 and died in 1999, Lucien Scheler was a French poet, publisher and librarian. André Velter

Born in 1945, André Velter is a French poet, essayist and radio host. A frequent traveller, Velter writes poems and essays that depict his trips to Asia, particularly Tibet. Interested in encounters and exchanges, he has worked with many visual artists. His poems have won various awards, including the Prix Mallarmé for L'Arbre-Seul and the Goncourt de la poésie for his entire work.

Born in 1910 and died in 2001, Georges Visat was a French engraver, publisher and painter. On the eve of the Second World War, he founded his intaglio printing company in Paris, whose activities resumed upon his return from captivity. The engraving reproductions by George Bracques enabled him to invent a new technique, relief engraving, which was taken up by many artists, including his friend Max Ernst. In the 1960s, he became an art publisher and helped disseminate the work of many artists, such as Hans Bellmer, Alberto Giacometti and Roberto Matta. He devoted the last part of his life to painting.

Born in 1956, Louise Warren is a Quebec poet and essayist. In poetry, she is credited with more than a dozen books, including Le Lièvre de mars, La Lumière, l’Arbre, le Trait and Le Plus Petit Espace. As an essayist, she explored the themes of creation, memory and mourning in La Forme et le Deuil, Archives du lac, and was a finalist for the Governor General’s Award.
